SKY PATROL: Two Ballplayers. Two Ideas. One Box.

SKY PATROL started with a conversation after the Showcase.

Mary Bernyk had an idea she wanted to bring to BULLPEN Originals: a military-inspired box series. Then Darcy Carter suggested a new gear item for BPO boxes.

Put those two ideas together, and an outfielder’s Award Box began to take shape.

Air Force inspiration. Recon. Sunglasses. A box for the players who track the ball and go get it.

We introduced SKY PATROL on Facebook on September 22. Here’s the story behind how it came together.

The Idea Had a Personal Connection

Mary’s Air Force-inspired concept helped shape SKY PATROL’s identity.

Mary made the BULLPEN Originals Ambassador Top 12 two years in a row. After this year’s Showcase, she shared something she had hoped to do if she won: help create a military-inspired box series.

For Mary, the Air Force connection came from her family. Her dad serves in the Air Force and is stationed in San Angelo.

That gave the idea a personal starting point. It was something she wanted to help bring into the BPO lineup, with a connection to her dad’s service behind it.

We thought it was too good an idea to leave waiting.

Mary’s contribution became the starting point for SKY PATROL. You can see that connection in the aircraft, wings, and blue skies worked into the label—and in the Mary Bernyk Collection detail on the artwork.

Darcy Supplied the Missing Piece

Meanwhile, our 2026–27 Texas Brand Ambassador, Darcy Carter, suggested sunglasses as a new gear item for BULLPEN boxes.

That idea gave Mary’s concept a clear connection to the diamond.

Outfielders spend their innings reading the game from a different view. They track a ball off the bat, cover ground, back up their teammates, and stay ready for the play that comes their way.

An Air Force-inspired design and a pair of sunglasses gave us the pieces for a box that fit those players.

SKY PATROL became the first BULLPEN Originals Award Box to include sunglasses.

Two Top 12 softball players had brought us two different ideas. Together, those ideas gave this box its identity.

SKY PATROL: For Players Covering the Deep

The label puts that outfield connection right up front: COVER THE DEEP.

Aircraft and open skies meet a ballplayer reaching for the catch. The artwork brings Mary’s inspiration into a baseball-and-softball setting, with the outfield as its home.

It’s a box for the player tracking a fly ball toward the gap. For the teammate covering ground behind the infield. For the outfielder staying alert when the ball hasn’t come their way in a while.

You don’t always know which pitch will bring your next chance. You stay ready anyway.

That’s the attitude we wanted SKY PATROL to celebrate.

RECON: See Everything

The exclusive RECON — SEE EVERYTHING sticker was designed specifically for this drop.

Its artwork carries the same visual thread: a ballplayer in sunglasses, aircraft, radar-inspired details, and a winged ball at the center.

The sticker gives the idea another place to live beyond the box label. It brings the Air Force inspiration, the outfield connection, and Darcy’s gear suggestion into one design.

SEE EVERYTHING. MISS NOTHING.

It’s the line that pulls the whole concept together.

Player Ideas Belong in the BULLPEN

One of our favorite parts of SKY PATROL is where it started.

Mary shared a concept with a personal connection. Darcy suggested something she wanted to see in a BPO box. We listened, connected the ideas, and built a box around them.

The result carries a piece of both players’ contributions.

That’s a story worth telling, even after the original drop announcement has passed.

If you know a ballplayer who takes pride in covering the deep, SKY PATROL was made with that player in mind.

Two ballplayers. Two ideas. One box.
